coverletter example

Hey guys, this is from Bailey, its an example of a cover letter and she thought that it would help us out :D

Letterhead

Month 00, 2009
Mr. John Doe (Name of contact person)
Creative World, Inc. (Name of Company)
Street Address
City, State, Zip Code

Dear Mr. Doe,
This is a formal letter of introduction. Start off by introducing youself and say who referred you to them and why. (“Jane Smith, the Art Director at XYZ communications, suggested I contact you about a possible internship with your firm.”) Or, mention how you heard about them or their firm, or whatever you can use to establish some connection.
This letter will accompany your resume, so don’t just repeat what your resume says (list of capabilities or jobs). Instead, having done some research on the person (or their company, etc.) you are sending this letter to, try to tailor this letter to their interests. For example, if you know that this is a packaging firm, you may want to expand on the experience you had with a packaging design project at school.
If you can’t possibly find anything specific to point out about yourself, try not to sound like everybody else (DON’T SAY, “I am looking for a position that will challenge me.”) Make it cleat that you know about the company, and make the person who receives the letter feel that it was written for them and not one of a pile of letters that you send everywhere.
The point here is to introduce yourself as someone who is more unusual than the average applicant. Sometimes that just means being more interested in the person you are writing to (or their company) than you are in yourself. Beware of being too personal. This is a business letter, so an amount of professional detachment is preferable.
At the end of the letter, if you are interested in meeting with the person, or in setting up an interview, say that you will call rather than that you’ll wait for them to get in touch with you. (“I will call within the next two weeks to set up an appointment for an interview. I look forward to meeting with you.”) This way, you control the communication.
Sincerely,
Your signature here. Use both your first and last names. ALWAYS sign your letters before handing them in.
