MOORE CAREER OPPORTUNITY INTERNSHIPS

Summer Fellowship Support for Emerging Professionals in Art & Design
A PILOT PROJECT SUPPORTED BY THE KNIGHT FOUNDATION

The Knight Foundation has awarded a generous grant to Moore College of Art & Design to support ten internship fellowships of $2000 each for JUNIORS participating in Moore’s REQUIRED internship program in Summer 2009. This pilot program helps address one of the Foundation’s priorities, which is to encourage students attending area colleges and universities to remain in the Philadelphia area upon graduation and continue to contribute their talents, skills and commitment to the region’s creative economy. Therefore, all internships under this program must take place in the seven counties surrounding Philadelphia (including Camden County) with a special emphasis on internships taking place within the city.

Students interested in competing for these fellowships must submit to the Locks Career Center the INTENT TO APPLY FORM by 5pm Friday, February 27, 2009 and the FINAL APPLICATION FORM by 5pm Wednesday, April 1. Students should also plan to attend an INFORMATION SESSION hosted by the Locks Career Center and held in Fox Commons from 11:30-12:30 Monday, February 23.

Students participating in this program must agree to the following requirements:

Internships must take place:
• In the Philadelphia region only (in the seven counties immediately surrounding the city, including Camden County, with special emphasis on placement in the city proper).
• At a nonprofit arts and cultural organization only (consult with the Locks Career Center regarding the nonprofit qualifications of the organization. Internship Prep faculty must approve the host site).
• And is a traditionally non-paid internship.

Students must submit:

INTENT TO APPLY FORM with the following:
• GPA
• Names of up to two faculty or staff who will write a letter of recommendation (cannot be Internship Prep faculty or Career Center staff).
• Names of up to two nonprofit arts and cultural organizations for which the student wishes to intern.
• By 5pm Friday, February 27.

FINAL APPLICATION FORM with the following:
• Up to two faculty and /or staff letters of recommendation (cannot be Internship Prep faculty or Career Center staff).
• Name and contact information of the internship host site (nonprofit arts and cultural organization). This host site must confirm agreement to accept the intern and provide a designated mentor and the signed Internship Contract must be returned to the Locks Career Center before the internship starts.
• By 5pm Wednesday, April 1.

Once awarded:
• The student agrees to provide a thorough documentation of the internship with information confirmed by the Locks Career Center in addition to departmental requirements.
• The student agrees to present a public presentation in the fall semester about her experience.
• The student must successfully complete all work in their Internship Prep class and receive a passing grade.
