Artist talk response, Matthew Moyer

Matthew Moyer was the photographer from National Geographic. He was very passionate about the work he produced, which was a trait that was greatly appreciated. Matthew talked about how important it was to have strong writing skill. 80% of what he did was research and writing proposals, which shatters any fantasies of doing mostly photo shoots while working at a magazine. Also, it was nice to hear a photographer acknowledge the natural anxiety of asking someone to take his or her picture, invading one’s personal life to get a good shot.
I pretty much learned that a mainstream photography job isn’t all photo shoots and lighting kits. One must learn how to do extensive research and keep decent writing skills or they won’t be able to get far.
