Zoey's job sounds busy, busy, busy and interesting and busy. She has worked her way up through much assisting of photographers, internships and hard work to reach a very demanding job at Philadelphia Magazine. She spoke well to us and was frank about the hard path that she took to get to where she is now. I especially enjoyed the talk because of my own interest in cake, flower and architectural photography. It was interesting to hear her detail how they ask for a shoot to include certain colors, moods and visions, but they still have to do editing later. The idea in their minds cannot be translated absolutely to a client, which is reasonable with creative minds. I enjoyed hearing how they have regular photographers they work with and when an idea comes to mind, she has a memory bank of the styles of those photographers. Impressions count. From that, she will call upon the photographers for work. It was interesting seeing the layout of the May edition of the Philadelphia magazine.
Deidra Krieger's talk and presentation was interesting also, because she is a recent graduate of and MFA program. From that qualification, a whole new world seems to have opened up for her and she gained a "real" job after providing for herself beforehand with artistic and supplemental work. She seems quite a self-satisfied person and can talk easily of her experiences. I enjoyed her talk and her honesty about the unforeseen rain filling up her thesis sculpture and difficulties she has encountered starting her own business. Professional advice and skills are a real need even for creative types.
